What's the scoop on all of the Buzz about the Naga Viper now being the Hottest Pepper in the Word???

Is it true? Has the Ghost Pepper or Bhut Jolokia Pepper been de-throned.

The quick answer....NOT YET.

I've received hundreds of emails and inquiries about the Naga Viper...here's what I know. A newspaper article written by Brett Michael Dykes came out on December the 3rd in the UK Daily Mail in England. It states that Gerald Fowler (who contacted me about a post I had on Twitter...and I responded asking him for more details on the Naga Viper...and have not heard back from him yet) created the Naga Viper...I LOVE that name...by crossing the 3 of the Hottest Chiles in the world. It also states that tests were done at the University of Warwick claiming it was 300,000 Scoville Units hotter than the Bhut Jolokia Pepper.

Wikipedia counters with "These results should be viewed with some skepticism" and "The Naga Viper being an unstable hybrid plant, which can take many generations to create a true breeding variety".  Also now "the Warwick University has made a disclaimer about the validity and implications of the testing of the Naga Viper". So it is a story that will continue to unfold.

Trinidad Scorpion. Put this on your Hot Peppers List as one of the HOTTEST...it is also Kin to the Naga Viper. Man, that was one HOT Pepper I just chomped down. I think I'll stick with Sweet Peppers. Plate of Ghost Peppers grown by Pepper Joe. Ghost Peppers are STILL the Hottest Pepper on Planet Earth! Trinidad Scorpion Butch T. This Hot Chili Pepper is one to watch for being one of the "Superhots" - we'll offer it in 2012.

What's my opinion??

There haven't been enough tests done on the Naga Viper from different peppers on different plants. And also we need to wait to see if future generations of the Hybrid stay true to form. And if the Heat level stays the same. That's a lot of 'ifs'.

Someday the record that the Ghost pepper now holds will be broken. I doubt anytime soon. But it will be broken.

Pepper Joe's Ghost Pepper takes top honors at the Iowa State Fair. I'll keep searching the Globe for the Hottest and tastiest and rarest Peppers found anywhere. Here's my Giant Bhut Jolokia. Compare it to an average Bhut Pepper. You get more 'bang for the buck. Douglah Pepper. Is this Chili Pepper hot? Does a bear go pee pee in the woods? Did Romeo love Juliet? Does Pepper Joe love Chiles?

The Naga Viper is a cross between the Trinidad Scorpion, Naga Morich and Bhut Jolokia. We are currently growing these seeds in test gardens in Florida, Michigan, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.

I hope to have the seeds available for sale in 2012. Then you can grow the Mama and Papa to the Naga Viper and see for yourself.

I've tasted Hot Chiles that I estimate were 1.5 Million Scoville Units to 2.0 Million Scoville units. Just my humble guess. But man, did they burn...even the next day! They were peppers I've grown were just unusually hot on a particular plant. The heat level can change from plant to plant...even pepper to pepper based on factors like climate, weather, nutrients, soil, root zone environment, etc. But getting their offspring to stay that hot, that's a different story.

Look man I KNOW Ghost Peppers are the Hottest Pepper. But I still love to eat them...even if it's suicide! Ghost Peppers with Chicago Sports Peppers and Garlic fried with Olive oil. Mmmm....what a topping on your favorite Chili recipes Bottom Line....the Guinness Book of World records declares the Ghost Pepper the Hottest Pepper in the world. Buy Ghost Pepper seeds and find out! The Scotch Bonnet. One of the hottest Habanero Peppers. The Scotch Bonnet pepper also has the taste and flavor to make it a winner.

When the World record for the Hottest Pepper IS broken in the Guinness Book of Worlds records, my guess is it will be one of these Hot Pepper Varieties and Chili types.... 7 Pot Douglah, Trinidad Scorpion, Trinidad Douglah, Bih Jolokia, Dorset Naga, Dorset Naga Chili, 7 pot red, 7 pot yellow, 7 pot Jonah, Naga Jolokia, Scorpion Butch T, Bombay Morich, Devils Tongue, Jamaican Hot Chocolate, Congo Trinidad or of course the Naga Morich and Trinidad Scorpion....the 'Parents' to the Naga Viper.

Don't you just love those names?

Until then....the fabulous Ghost Pepper or Bhut Jolokia is still the Hottest Pepper on Planet Earth at over 1,000,000 Scoville Units.....One pepper is too much heat for any single dish or recipe...do we really need hotter than that? And it has flavor to go with the heat level.

Fiery Regards,
